Australia created a new record in 2015-16 of granting 150 thousandth visitor visa on Wednesday, 29th June 2016.
Australia’s High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu, was appointed recently. Sidhu stated that this occasion is a huge milestone in the ties between Australia and India and highlighted the prospective development of both the countries.
“One hundred fifty thousand visitor visas is a sign of the growth of the relations between our two countries. I welcome it as a positive milestone. The achievement underlines the fast expanding links between Australia and India,” she said.
In program year of 2013-14, the High Commission of Australia reported its peak of 100 thousand visas approved for individuals visiting this country. 2015-16 program year witnessed a 19% rise in Indian tourists travelling to Australia, which is the maximum in the last seven years. At the congratulatory reception for the 150 thousandth visa, Sidhu celebrated with the visa recipients Mrinal Dutt and his wife Kanika. The couple was granted the privilege to go up the remarkable Sydney Harbor Bridge.
